Which environment creates the most tension?

The best thing about horror games, I find, is that they can be set almost anywhere. It is the other elements developers add like the music, lighting, sounds, and characters that then make it as scary or interesting as possible. However, we cannot dismiss the value of a good setting in creating varying levels of tension in different ways.

From hospitals and schools to the woods and abandoned shacks, which environment creates the most tension for you?

For me, it is the forest! I like to wander in the forest while expecting anything to come from there. This is the part that I really find thrilling in most horror games and that meant that I have played more horror games with that same kind of setting.

For me, an abandoned hospital creates the most tension. I visited an abandoned hospital in a nearby province once, and the experience gave me the creeps. I couldn't sleep that night. So, when it comes to horror games, the environment of an abandoned hospital really evokes a scary feeling. It helps me remember the abandoned hospital I visited.

For me abandoned house with a bad history is a perfect setting for a horror game. I also like dark forest. I like the interplay of shadows rather than slashers and gore.
