Cultural Influences

Someone once said our culture has an influence on most games including survival horror games, this actually got me thinking. How do different cultures influence the themes and settings of horror survival games, what are your thoughts on this issue?

I think that culture could have a major influence. Most of the survival games are based on western culture, as many such games are made in western countries. This usually involves the character trying to survive in a specific conditions under specific circumstances. For example, a survivor could go on camping and they may try to survive in a forest. Camping is not that popular in my country. So, you can say that this is related to culture.

Resident Evil is based on Japanese culture and folklore. The social isolation and supernatural beings in the game can all be traced to Japanese culture. The atmospheric setting of the game heavily draws from Japanese culture too.
