28 Days Later was a refreshing take on the standard zombie trope when it was released 22 years ago, taking the typical Romero zombie and turning them into a fast-moving horde. This was the movie which heavily inspired VAVLe's zombie-shooter, Left 4 Dead. A sequel, 28 Weeks Later, followed, and now we can expect 28 Years Later in 2025.

Ralph Fiennes is set to star in the film helmed by Danny Boyle and penned by Alex Garland. It's reported that this isn’t just a continuation but the start of a new trilogy. Fiennes has already started sharing hints about the film’s plot, painting a picture of a Britain still under siege from the Rage Virus.

According to Fiennes, the story centres on a young boy and his mother as they navigate the northern English countryside, hoping to find a doctor who can help her. Alongside infected hordes hiding in the wilderness, the mother and son encounter Fiennes’ character, a doctor who may not be quite what he seems.

Cillian Murphy will reprise his role as Jim, joined by Jodie Comer and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, rounding out a strong cast aimed at reviving the original film's gritty tone. With Boyle at the helm for this first entry and Nia DaCosta slated to direct the second installment, The Bone Temple, it looks like this trilogy will bring a fresh perspectives to the zombie horror scene.

Curious to see how they pick up after the ending of 28 Weeks Later. Didn't seem to leave much in the way of a sequel. I'm hopeful though, I enjoyed the first two films, though the 28 Weeks Later sequel had a lot of plot inconsistencies.
